Senior Centers Provide Many Services

Summer can be a lonely time for senior citizens as the heat keeps them indoors, and other family members are on vacation. Luckily, senior centers offer a place where these citizens can get a break from the heat and be around friends. Kristin Frazier, the Coordinator at the Burgettstown Senior Center, says that not all senior citizens have air conditioning units in their homes, so the center gives them a place to cool off. She also explains that the center provides daily meals, activities, and indoor exercise. The center hosts fun events where participants can make crafts, play games, and enjoy themed activities.  Recently, funding cuts have been impacting senior centers in the area. For Burgettstown’s Center, these impacts were seen with the Meals on Wheels program. Frazier explains that some citizens who wanted Meals on Wheels had to wait longer to be put on the list, but she is happy to report that this issue seems to be resolved, and citizens who sign up are now getting their meals quicker.
