A series of slow moving storms roared through Washington, Greene, Fayette and Allegheny counties Saturday afternoon. Thousands of West Penn Power customers are without electricity after the strong winds tore down power lines, poles and trees. West Penn Power reported more than 53,000 power outages in the Western Pennsylvania area as of early Saturday evening and of those outages, more than 16,000 are in Washington County and over 23,000 are in Fayette County. Across Washington County, emergency responders were called out to deal with downed trees, power lines and several accidents that occurred during the storm. Also, in Morgantown, West Virginia, several people were hurt when the storm hit during a baseball game and the wind blew over a canopy tent on the top of a hill near Kendrick Family Ball Park. At least three ambulances were called and multiple people were taken to the hospital. It happened while the West Virginia University Mountaineers baseball team was playing for a spot in the College World Series. In Allegheny County, Morgan Wallen fans were but out when Wallen’s highly anticipated Saturday concert in Pittsburgh was canceled because of the risk of severe weather conditions. Wallen was supposed to have his second Still the Problem Tour show at Acrisure Stadium on Saturday night. But, the popular country artist said there was “no choice but to cancel” the show. “After talking with local officials and my team, there is no choice but to cancel tonight’s show due to severe adverse weather conditions expected throughout the rest of the day and night. Safety for my fans and crew is the highest priority,” a statement on Wallen’s Instagram story said. All tickets will be refunded at point of purchase. (Photo: WPXI)
