Snow Covers The Region As December Arrives

PITTSBURGH — Snow will impact your travel plans through the day Tuesday.  A winter weather advisory went into effect at 1 a.m. Tuesday and will continue until 7 a.m. Wednesday. Gusty winds will make it feel even colder, with wind chills in the teens to low 20s throughout the day. Periods of snow will continue at times Tuesday, with a steady round of snow possible during the afternoon and evening commute. If you are headed out, allow extra time, and give road crews plenty of distance as they battle to get roads treated. Temperatures will fall below freezing again Tuesday night into early Wednesday causing melted snow to refreeze if not treated. Washington County 9-1-1 dispatchers reported numerous accidents, mostly minor, throughout the county during the morning rush. State Police also reported several minor accidents on both Interstates 70 and 79.  One crash did close a portion of Route 40 after a vehicle struck a utility pole at Beatty Lane in Beallsville.  Two schools did close their buildings for the day; the McGuffey School District and Faith Christian School.
