TOKYO (AP) — President Donald Trump has met with Japan’s new Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, during his trip to Asia. Trump also took Takaichi with him as he spoke to U.S. troops aboard an aircraft carrier on Tuesday. Takaichi, Japan’s first female prime minister, aims to solidify ties with Trump while protecting Japan’s economic interests. Trump seeks $550 billion in Japanese investment as part of a trade agreement. The leaders signed agreements to strengthen their alliance and secure critical minerals. Trump praised Takaichi and emphasized the U.S. commitment to Japan. They also discussed the war in Ukraine and North Korea. Trump is set to meet Chinese leader Xi Jinping in South Korea later this week.
