WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is urging Republican lawmakers to run on his White House record despite his sagging popularity. On Wednesday, he pledged to campaign in about three dozen contests that could determine control of Congress. Voters’ dim views of the economy and the war in Iran have put Republicans in a tough spot as the midterm election season enters its final stretch. During a dinner in the Rose Garden, Trump told vulnerable lawmakers they have a triumphant story to tell voters. He plans to campaign in 35 House and Senate races.
