LOS ANGELES (AP) — Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is promising to move forward with the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown in Los Angeles despite the waves of unrest. She says agents have thousands of targets. Noem spoke Thursday, hours before President Donald Trump’s use of troops to help carry the immigration raids faces its biggest challenge yet. That’s when a federal judge is set to weigh a request from California Gov. Gavin Newsom to put an emergency stop to the practice. Newsom has warned that the military intervention is part of a broader effort by Trump to overturn norms at the heart of the nation’s democracy. The Trump administration called the lawsuit a political stunt.
