Washington City Council moved quickly through an agenda that was packed with business items on Thursday night. Council began the meeting by approving for demolition a nuisance property located at 35 E. Hallam Avenue. Council then approved the consolidation of five lots to allow Coen Oil to construct a brand new prototype convenience store and fueling station, replacing one that exists at the corner of Jefferson and Henderson Avenues. Adam Lazenga, Director of Real Estate and Construction for Coen Oil stated that the new store will be approximately 5000 square feet and will offer their popular fried chicken and from scratch pizza along with other menu items. There will also be more fuel pumps to add to the convenience of the new store. In other city business, council approved new police and fire civil service rules and regulations and restated the terms of Civil Service Board members Richard Beck, George Robinson and Rob Miklic. Mayor Scott Putnam reminded citizens that City Hall will be closed on Monday January 16 for the observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
