Washington High School Grad Sponsors Football Camp

A graduate of Washington High School that went on to play college football is returning home to sponsor a youth football camp. Chase Mitchell went on to play college football at Liberty University. Liberty is a Christian school. Mitchell felt the school looked down on him because he had a child in January of 2022. One of Mitchell’s coaches at Liberty helped him through his situation and taught him to embrace fatherhood and grow as a person. That coach was Chris Klenakis. Mitchell said he grew up without a father and leaned on Klenakis for support. Mitchell felt the Christian school did not look favorably being unmarried with a child. He said Klenakis embraced him and helped him grow. Mitchell entered the transfer portal in 2024 and was reunited with Klenakis at Vanderbilt University for his final season of football. Mitchell will be funding his youth football camp with NIL (name, image and likeness) money he earned at Vanderbilt. The camp will take place on May 18 from 1-5 pm. at Washington High School Stadium. There are 200 free slots for kids 8-16. Check in starts at noon. Mitchell says there will be several guest coaches on hand.
