The JuneTeenth parade in the City of Washington was one for the history books. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) led the parade with John Campbell Sr who was named as the Grand Marshal for the parade went down main street signified the first time African Americans marched down main street in the City of Washington in any capacity. Campbell has been a Washington School Board Member for twenty years and says it’s a huge honor to be the Grand Marshal for this parade. He also says the best thing to do is vote and that parents are essential in educating children. This parade also marked the Juneteenth is to commemorate when enslaved African-Americans in Texas learned of their freedom more than two years after the emancipation proclamation was issued by President Abraham Lincoln.
