ISTANBUL (AP) — Wildfires have engulfed Turkey for weeks, threatening Bursa, the country’s fourth-largest city and forcing over 1,700 people to flee. The fires spread rapidly overnight, turning the sky red over Bursa’s eastern suburbs. More than 1,900 firefighters are fighting the flames, and the highway to Ankara is closed. Meanwhile, firefighters in the neighboring countries of Greece and Bulgaria were also battling blazes fed by unusually high temperatures, dry conditions and strong winds. In Greece, firefighters battled active wildfires in the country’s southwest and on the island of Kythera on following a blaze that scorched a northern Athens suburb the day before.
