The WPIAL football playoff automatic berths have all been claimed, including five Washington County teams with another two from Greene County. In addition, three other teams will be in consideration for Wild Card berths by the Football Steering committee. The WPIAL is set to release this year’s playoff brackets mid-afternoon Saturday. For the other nine teams from the two-county area, the 2024 season has come to an end.
Trinity scored the last 17 points of the game to rally past Belle Vernon, clinching a 4A berth. Waynesburg’s win secured a 2A spot for the Raiders. Bentworth’s Ben Hays had a hand in five touchdowns, leading the Bearcats to the final 1A automatic bid. Carmichaels and West Greene posted wins to put their names in 1A Wild Card conversations. Wash High falls to fifth place in the Century Conference and is on the bubble for a 2A Wild Card invitation.
