2025 HS Football Season Opening Night

August 22, 2025 12:01 am

The 2025 high school football season got underway Friday night including a pair of games on the WJPA Sports Network. Wash dominated the second half to pull away from McGuffey.  The Little Prexies ran for more than 200 yards in the second half. Ameer Nelson (pictured) ran for 106 yards and two touchdowns after intermission. Peters Township rolled past visiting Canon-McMillan. Trinity and Moon went late in the fourth, tied 7-7. The Hillers got a long Jonah Williamson TD run but missed the extra point. Moon snatched the win with a 45-yard scoring pass in the final 30 seconds and a successful PAT.

Avella, Bentworth, California, Fort Cherry, Jeff-Morgan, Monessen and Waynesburg all scored comfortable wins. We apologize for the technical issues that plagued our WJPA-FM broadcast of the Canon-McMillan at Peters Township game. On-demand archives are available here: Watch/Listen Here!
