The four-week PIAA Individual Wrestling Championship Series started Saturday across the WPIAL. The top six finishers in each weight class advance to the WPIAL Championships next weekend, Class 2A at Chartiers Valley, Class 3A at Canon-McMillan. We’ll have live coverage of both WPIAL Championship tournaments, including all of Saturday’s action on WJPA-AM (1450) and online Listen Here. Following are links to the medal bouts in each of the three Sectional tournaments involving Washington/Greene County teams.
2A Southern Sectional — McGuffey won four individual titles and will send nine wrestlers to the WPIAL 2A Championships next weekend. Burgettstown led the Sectional with 10 wrestlers advancing, but the host Blue Devils had to settle for one individual championship. Bentworth (3) and Beth-Center (2) also had multiple winners.
3A Southern Sectional — Trinity has qualifiers in 12 of the 13 weights, including 11 top-3 finishers at the Sectional. Canon-McMillan will have 11 of its wrestlers on home turf at the WPIAL 3A Championships Friday/Saturday, including four individual section champions.
3A Eastern Sectional — Ringgold won one section title and will send five wrestlers to the WPIAL 3A Championships.
