Baseball/Softball Playoff Picture–Wednesday

Persistent rains limited Washington/Greene Counties to just nine section baseball/softball game Tuesday. That count included Burgettstown’s 12-11 win over Fort Cherry to claim a share of the 2A Section 1 baseball title. Trinity and Peters Township won crucial 5A Section 2 games, the Indians improving their playoff position, the Hillers enhancing their chances to qualify.  Jeff-Morgan’s walkoff win against Jeannette puts Avella’s baseball team into the 1A playoffs. A full slate of games in on Wednesday’s schedule. Softball brackets are due out Thursday, baseball Friday. Here’s a rundown of the playoff status for the 19 Washington & Greene County schools along with Wednesday’s game schedule with impact on remaining playoff spots.

Baseball clinched: 6A Canon-McMillan (1st), 5A Peters Township (2nd/3rd), 4A Ringgold (4th), 3A Waynesburg (1st), Charleroi (2nd/3rd), 2A Burgettstown (1st), Fort Cherry (1st/2nd), California (3rd/4th), 1A Carmichaels (2nd/3rd), Jeff-Morgan (2nd/3rd), Avella (4th)
Alive: 5A Trinity (clinches with 1 win, or South Fayette loss), 3A McGuffey (clinches with 1 win, or Keystone Oaks loss), Chartiers-Houston (clinches with 1 win or Frazier loss).
Eliminated: 3A Wash High, 2A Bentworth, Beth-Center, 1A Mapletown, West Greene
