Jeff-Morgan beat Springdale in the first round of the 2A boys playoffs, clinching the Rockets first trip to the state tournament in 26 years. Chartiers-Houston rallied to within two points halfway through the fourth before Winchester Thurston scored the final 12 points, eliminating the Bucs. Bentworth held a five-point lead at the half but lost at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. Fort Cherry lost at Neshannock, ending the Rangers’ season.
The WPIAL Basketball sprint to the finish continues this week with games every night through Saturday. Tuesday is the busiest night of the first round for local teams with nearly half of the original 24 Washington/Greene County squads in action.
