Bentworth Boys Soccer Wins PIAA Title!

November 16, 2025 12:07 am

Bentworth and Delco Christian played 80 minutes of scoreless soccer in the PIAA Boys 1A championship match. In the fourth minute of overtime, Adam Moessner took a high-bouncing pass from his older brother Ryan and slipped a shot past keeper Carter Dill, lifting the Bearcats to the school’s first-ever PIAA team championship. Less than a minute after a yellow card sent playmaker Billy Moyer to the Bentworth sideline, a midfield scrum ended with the ball on Ryan’s foot. The school’s all-time leading scorer lofted the ball over the center back and Adam did the rest, tallying his 51st goal of the season, the 9th in the playoffs.  Adam finished the playoffs with a five-game goal streak.  Isaac Vipperman posted his 17th shutout in goal, facing only a couple scoring chances. Delco Christian had not allowed a goal since mid-October, shutting out six consecutive District 1 and PIAA playoff opponents. The Bearcats lost in the 2023 semifinals to Charleroi. Delco Christian beat the Cougars four days later to win the title. Last year, Bentworth lost to Lancaster Mennonite, 1-0, in overtime. Now, Bentleyville, Ellsworth, Cokeburg, North Bethlehem and Somerset celebrate PIAA gold for the first time. PIAA Soccer Brackets
