Bentworth Boys Win, Peters Girls Lose in PIAA Playoffs

November 6, 2024 12:01 am

Adam Moessner buried a rebound into the net, the only goal of the match, as the Bentworth boys beat District 6 champion Westmont Hilltop, 1-0, Tuesday night in the opening round of the PIAA 1A playoffs. Aiden McMurray worked free about 10 yards out and put a shot on net kicked out by WH keeper Alex Mondick. A teammate tried to clear the loose ball and put it right in Moessner line. The sophomore blasted the shot for his 28th goal of the season, 28 minutes into the first half. Mondick made a couple spectacular saves in the final 30 seconds of the half, keeping the Hilltoppers in the match. Bentworth keeper DJ Hays notched his 27th career shutout, the Bearcats’ 9th straight since the end of September. Bentworth will play District 10 champion Mercyhurst Prep in the quarterfinals on Saturday. The match is scheduled for 12 noon at Grove City High School. We’ll carry the action on WPJA-AM (1450).
