PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Bernie Parent, the Hall of Fame goalie for the Philadelphia Flyers, has died at 80. The Flyers made the announcement Sunday but provided no details. Former teammate Joe Watson says Parent died overnight in his sleep. Known for his iconic steel-eyed stare, Parent led the Flyers to their only two Stanley Cup championships in 1974 and 1975. He was featured on the cover of Time magazine in 1975. Parent’s career began with Boston in 1965, and he later became a star for the Flyers, earning numerous accolades. His No. 1 jersey was retired by the Flyers, and he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984. Parent remained a beloved figure in Philadelphia throughout his life.
