Changes Possible for PIAA Wrestling Weights

April 30, 2020 2:20 am

The PIAA Wrestling Steering Committee is proposing the elimination of one weight class and minor modifications to three others.  The committee’s proposal comes on the heels of the National Federation taking no action on the proposal.  Under the plan, weight classes up to 160 pounds would stay the same along with the top weight limit of 285 pounds.  In between, the previous four weight classes would be reduced to three, cutting the PA varsity number of weight classes to 13.  The committee has struggled with the number of forfeits in regular season dual meets for a number of years.  The proposal will be on the PIAA Board of Directors agenda for the May 20 meeting.

Proposed weight classes:  106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 160, 172, 189, 215, 285 (current classes: 106-160 same, 170, 182, 195, 220, 285)
