Two weeks (4 play dates) remain in the girls basketball regular season. The top four teams in each section qualify for the playoffs plus any unbreakable ties. Here’s a look at the Washington & Greene County girls teams (section records):

Class 6A Peters Township (3-5) tied for the final playoff spot with Baldwin and Bethel Park. The Indians split with the Highlanders and beat the Blackhawks in their first meeting. Canon-McMillan (0-8) needs to win out and get lots of help.

Class 5A Trinity (5-1) has clinched a playoff spot and sits one game behind South Fayette. Trinity plays three of its final four section games at home.

Class 4A Ringgold (2-7) trails Laurel Highland and West Mifflin by 3.5 games. The Rams have three games left and must win out plus have Laurel Highlands lose its remaining four games.

Class 3A Waynesburg (5-1), Charleroi (3-3), McGuffey (2-4). Waynesburg leads the section by one game over Yough & South Park. Charleroi sits fourth, one game ahead of McGuffey but the Cougars lost to the Highlanders the first time through. McGuffey plays three of its last four section games on the road.

Class 2A Section 2 Burgettstown (6-) has clinched a playoff spot and leads the standings, one game better than Brentwood, two up on Ft. Cherry (4-2). The Rangers clinch a berth with any win or with a Sto-Rox loss.

Class 2A Section 4 Wash High (8-0), Chartiers-Houston (8-1) and California (5-3) have all clinched. The Little Prexies visit the Bucs Monday night with at least a share of the section title on the line. WHS won the first meeting, 34-26, right after the holiday break. Carmichaels (4-4) is 2.5 games up on Frazier and Bentworth (2-7), clinching with any win or with losses by both the Commodores and Bearcats. Beth-Center (1-8) can not qualify.

Class 1A West Greene (5-1) is in a virtual tie for first place with Monessen (4-1). The Pioneers’ 70+ game section winning streak was snapped Thursday by Avella (3-3). The Eagles currently hold the final playoff spot, one game up on Mapletown (2-4), three better than Jeff-Morgan (0-6).
