High School Football–Week 9

October 30, 2021 3:58 am

Canon-McMillan, Peters Township, Beth-Center and Burgettstown are heading to the WPIAL football playoffs, joining seven other Washington/Greene County teams who had already qualified heading into the final night of the regular season.  The Big Macs qualify because of their work earlier in the year.  The Indians, Bulldogs and Blue Devils had to win their finales to qualify. California, Chartiers-Houston, McGuffey, Wash High, Carmichaels, Mapletown and West Greene had all clinched playoff spots previously.

Wash High scored with three seconds to play to beat McGuffey, 41-34, to win the outright Century Conference title. The Highlanders scored with 20 seconds remaining, then took the lead with a two-point conversion, only to see the Little Prexies get a long run and a scoring pass from Davoun Fuse. The win is Washington’s 42nd straight at home and cap’s the Little Prexies 15th unbeaten/untied regular season.
