PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Penguins head into an offseason with plenty of questions, starting with the future of forward Evgeni Malkin. The 20-year veteran is scheduled to become a free agent in July and wants to stay in Pittsburgh after the Penguins returned to the playoffs following a three-year absence. General manager Kyle Dubas has been noncommittal while discussing Malkin’s status. Malkin, who turns 40 in August, says he understands if Dubas wants to surround captain Sidney Crosby with plenty of talent. Malkin had 61 points this season but also missed 20 games due to injury and another five thanks to a suspension.
