Bills Rout 49ers To Clinch AFC East

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Josh Allen scored a receiving touchdown on a pass he threw in his latest do-everything performance, and the Buffalo Bills clinched their fifth straight AFC East title with a 35-10 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on a snowy Sunday night. Allen had touchdowns passing, rushing and receiving, becoming the first quarterback and seventh player in the Super Bowl era to do that and the first since the Niners’ Christian McCaffrey in 2022. His receiving TD came on a play in which he threw to Amari Cooper, who lateraled back to Allen. The Bills improved to 10-2. The Niners lost their third straight to fall to 5-7.

AP Top 25; Ohio St, Miami, Clemson Drop

Ohio State, Miami and Clemson plunged in The Associated Press Top 25 college football poll following losses over the weekend. Eight of the top 10 teams moved up one spot and Oregon was No. 1 for the seventh straight week. The shakeup creates two top-five matchups in conference championship games Saturday: No. 1 Oregon against No. 3 Penn State in the Big Ten and No. 2 Texas against No. 5 Georgia in the SEC. No. 4 Notre Dame won’t play again until the College Football Playoff. Ohio State fell to No. 7, Miami to No. 14 and Clemson to No. 18.

Big Ten Fines Michigan & Ohio State $100,00 Each for Melee

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) — The Big Ten Conference has announced it fined Michigan and Ohio State $100,000 each for violating the conference’s sportsmanship policy for the on-field melee at the end of the Wolverines’ win in Columbus .A fight broke out at midfield Saturday after the Wolverines’ 13-10 victory when Michigan players attempted to plant their flag on the OSU logo and were confronted by the Buckeyes. Police used pepper spray to break up the players, who threw punches and shoves. One officer suffered a head injury when he was “knocked down and trampled while trying to separate players fighting.” The officer was taken to a hospital and has since been released.

CalU Wins, Wash-Jeff Loses in NCAA Tournaments

CALIFORNIA – The third-seeded Vulcans overcame a 12-point deficit midway through the fourth quarter and then registered a pair of pivotal interceptions in a span of just over a minute to earn a 34-33 win over Ashland in the second round of the NCAA Playoffs at Adamson Stadium on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the California (PA) football team improves to 10-2 overall and will host fourth-seeded Slippery Rock in the Super Region One Championship on Saturday, Dec. 7. The Vulcans advance to regional championship for the fifth time in history (2007-09, 2016) after claiming their fourth victory this season by four points or less. Meanwhile, Ashland finishes the campaign with a 9-4 mark after making its second appearance in the NCAA Playoffs in the last three years.

ASHLAND, VA – Washington & Jefferson College built an early 14-0 lead but couldn’t fell to host Randolph-Macon, 38-22, in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament. Jake Pugh ran for the Presidents’ first two scores but later threw a pair of interceptions as W&J returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2018. W&J also lost a fumble late in the first half, allowing the Yellowjackets to score 17 points in a span of less than two minutes, taking a lead they would never surrender.

Pens Use Powerplay To Beat Flames

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Michael Bunting scored a power-play goal and added two assists, as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Calgary Flames 6-2 on Saturday night. Philip Tomasino and Kris Letang also scored on the power play as Pittsburgh has goals with the man advantage in six of its last eight games. Rickard Rakell equaled a season-long three-game goal streak with his 10th of the season, while Anthony Beauvillier and Blake Lizotte also scored. Sidney Crosby extended a four-game point streak with an assist. Jonathan Huberdeau and Nazem Kadri added a goal and assist each in the third period for Calgary.

No. 4 Penn State Advances To Big Ten Title Game

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Drew Allar threw for a touchdown and ran for another score as No. 4 Penn State beat Maryland 44-7 and advanced to its first Big Ten championship game since 2016. Nick Singleton ran for two touchdowns, Beau Pribula rushed for a TD and tossed a scoring pass to Tyseer Denmark, and star tight end Tyler Warren caught at TD pass for the Nittany Lions (11-1, 8-1 Big Ten, No. 4 CFP), who will face No. 1 Oregon for the Big Ten title in Indianapolis on Saturday with a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff at stake. Penn State’s path to the conference title game was cleared when Michigan beat No. 2 Ohio State 13-10 in Columbus, Ohio.

Boston College Cruises Past Pitt

BOSTON (AP) — Defensive tackle Ty Clemons returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown, Reed Harris made a leaping 28-yard TD grab and Boston College beat Pittsburgh 34-23 on Saturday. Jordan McDonald had a 36-yard scoring run and Kye Robichaux added a 2-yarder for the Eagles. Grayson James completed 20-of-28 passes for 253 yards with two TDs for BC, which completed its first six-win season (6-1) at home since 2009. Making his second start of the season after starting QB Eli Holstein left last week’s lopsided loss at Louisville early with a leg injury, Nate Yarnell went 23 of 42 for 296 yards with three TD passes, two to Gavin Bartholomew, for Pittsburgh, which lost its fifth straight game.

Presidents, Vulcans Set for NCAA Second Round

Division III Washington & Jefferson returns to Ashland, VA Saturday to take on Randolph-Macon College in the NCAA football playoffs. Forty years ago, the Presidents beat the Yellowjackets for the school’s first-ever NCAA playoff win.  We’ll have the W&J / Randolph-Macon game on WJPA-AM with pre-game coverage starting at 11:30 am.

Division II Super Regional action continues Saturday afternoon as #3 Cal U hosts #7 Ashland at Adamson Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 pm.

Tomasino Scores To Give Penguins 2-1 Win Over Bruins

BOSTON (AP) — Philip Tomasino scored a tiebreaking goal in the third period, Tristan Jarry made 31 saves and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Boston Bruins 2-1. Tomasino’s first goal of the season with 12:34 remaining in the game came when the forward walked in from the left circle after the Bruins failed to clear the puck. Pittsburgh’s Rickard Rakell scored his ninth goal of the season with less than a second remaining in the second period. Charlie Coyle scored and Jeremy Swayman made 33 saves for Boston.

Chiefs Beat Raiders 19-17

The Chiefs defeated the Las Vegas Raiders, 19-17 in the NFL’s second-annual Black Friday game to become the first team this season to clinch a playoff berth.
