Purdy & 49ers Crush Cowboys

October 9, 2023 4:40 am

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Brock Purdy threw three of his four touchdown passes to George Kittle and the San Francisco 49ers extended their dominance over the Dallas Cowboys with a 42-10 victory. The Niners knocked the Cowboys out of the playoffs in tight games the past two seasons and that added intrigue to this early season matchup between perceived contenders. The rematch wasn’t even close. The Niners led 14-0 before the Cowboys got their initial first down of the night and were never really threatened on the way to matching a franchise record with their 15th straight regular-season win. Dallas had its most lopsided loss in 10 years.

October 8, 2023 4:34 am

PITTSBURGH (AP) —  Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett was a full participant at practice Thursday and continues to maintain that he is ‘good to go’ Sunday when the division-leading Baltimore Ravens visit Acrisure Stadium.  Meanwhile, outside Linebacker Alex Highsmith did not practice.  Reports say he is dealing with a groin injury.  Also, Cam Heyward is adamant he’s going to play again this season. The longest-tenured player on the Pittsburgh Steelers is keeping mum on when. The veteran defensive tackle says he is “working his tail off” to recover from surgery to repair a groin injury he sustained early in a Week 1 loss to San Francisco. Heyward, who is on injured reserve, is out until at least midseason. Pittsburgh’s run defense struggled without the six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro.

Dick Butkus, Hall Of Fame Bears Linebacker Dies At 80

October 6, 2023 4:37 am

CHICAGO (AP) — Fearsome Chicago Bears middle linebacker Dick Butkus has died at 80. The team said in a statement that he died Thursday. Citing his family, the team said Butkus died in his sleep at his home in Malibu, California. Butkus was a Hall of Famer whose bone-rattling tackles made him one of the most intimidating players in NFL history. He was the quintessential modern linebacker, a disruptive force who roamed sideline to sideline and left a trail of broken opponents behind. Despite a short career in which he retired at 31, Butkus came to define his position. He later acted in movies, TV shows and commercials.

As for the Steelers practice, the team did workout in pads after Mike Tomlin said they would after he cited a lack of physicallity in that loss to the Texans.
