PITTSBURGH (AP) — Rich Hill kept the St. Louis Cardinals off balance in his longest start of the season and the Pittsburgh Pirates completed a three-game sweep with a 2-1 victory. The 43-year-old Hill allowed just four hits in 6 2/3 innings, walking three and striking out six. Ji Hwan Bae’s two-run single in the first was all the offense Pittsburgh needed as the Pirates extended their winning streak to five. Andrew Knizner hit his seventh home run of the season for St. Louis. The Cardinals have dropped five of six.

DENVER (AP) — Gabe Vincent scored 23 points, Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo each scored 21 and the Miami Heat evened up the NBA Finals by overcoming a monster effort from Nikola Jokic to beat the Denver Nuggets 111-108 in Game 2 on Sunday night. Max Strus scored 14 and Duncan Robinson had 10 for the Heat, who had a big early lead, then got down by as many as 15 — before reclaiming the lead in the fourth. And even then, they had to dig deep to finish it off. Jokic was 16 of 28 from the floor, the last of those shots a 4-footer with 36 seconds left to get the Nuggets within three.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Oneil Cruz remains confident he will return sometime this season. Cruz hasn’t played since fracturing his left ankle during an awkward slide home against the Chicago White Sox in early April. The 6-foot-7 Cruz is still using crutches and a walking boot to get around but says he is focusing on coming back better than he was before the injury. Pittsburgh has remained in contention in the NL Central even without Cruz. The Pirates are hovering around the .500 mark thanks in part to the play of reserves Rodolfo Castro and Tucupita Marcano, who are filling in at shortstop while Cruz works his way back.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Kyle Dubas didn’t stay out of work for long. The Pittsburgh Penguins have hired Dubas as the club’s president of hockey operations. The move comes less than two weeks after Dubas was fired as the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Dubas replaces Brian Burke, who was fired along with general manager Ron Hextall in April after the Penguins failed to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2006.
