Two-time Stanley Cup-winning goaltender Jonathan Quick has been traded for a second time in under 48 hours. Vegas acquired Quick from Columbus for a seventh-round pick in 2025 and journeyman goalie Michael Hutchinson. Quick was traded from the Los Angeles Kings to the Blue Jackets earlier this week. The move solves the Golden Knights’ latest problem in goal with All-Star starter Logan Thompson out long term with injury. The NHL-leading Boston Bruins also made another move by getting pending free agent winger Tyler Bertuzzi from Detroit.

LeBron James is expected to miss most of March with an injured tendon in his right foot, the Los Angeles Lakers said on Thursday. And if that timetable holds, the Lakers will have to find a way to stay in the playoff race without the league’s all-time scoring leader. The Lakers did not disclose the full extent of the injury, saying that it was a tendon issue and that he will be “reevaluated in approximately three weeks.” If James misses three more weeks, starting with Thursday, that would keep him out for at least 10 of the Lakers’ final 19 games.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — For the second straight year, shooting and mental mistakes undid Pitt on a trip to Notre Dame. This time, the loss might be far more damaging to the Panthers. Marcus Hammond sank four of six from beyond the arc on his way to a game-high 20 points and Notre Dame built a 14-point halftime lead that Pitt didn’t cut into until it was too late. Instead of locking up a first-round bye in the ACC tournament, the Panthers played gracious guests in Mike Brey’s final home game at Notre Dame, going down to an 88-81 defeat on Wednesday night at Purcell Pavilion.

PITTSBURGH — The busy night continued Wednesday when GM Ron Hextall executed the second Pittsburgh Penguins trade in less than one hour. First, Hextall traded center Teddy Blueger to the Vegas Golden Knights, then followed that move with accompanying salary cap space to acquire Nashville Predators left wing/center Mikael Granlund. The Pens give up a second round pick in 2023 in return. The Penguins acquired a third-rounder in the Blueger deal and upped their available salary cap space to $6.3 million.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Jason Zucker scored with 1:39 left to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 3-1 victory over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night. Sidney Crosby also scored, Bryan Rust added a late empty-netter and Tristan Jarry made 24 saves for Pittsburgh, which extended its winning streak to three games. Mark Jankowski scored and Juuse Saros made 31 saves for Nashville, which had its three-game winning streak snapped. The Predators have been sellers recently as Friday’s trade deadline approaches. The Predators are a longshot in the quest to claim one of the Western Conference’s playoff berths.

The New York Rangers have acquired Patrick Kane in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks. The Rangers sent a conditional second-round draft pick and a future fourth-rounder to Chicago and a third-rounder in 2025 to Arizona to complete the deal. Kane joins the Rangers after waiving his no-movement clause to leave the only NHL organization he has played for. The 34-year-old won the Stanley Cup three times with the Blackhawks and was playoff MVP in 2013. Getting Kane is the latest big move by New York in the team’s pursuit of its first championship since 1994.

BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) – There was no umpire behind the plate calling balls and strikes when the Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates kept playing Tuesday. There wasn’t even one of those so-called robo umps that could become part of the game in the future. The umpires were done with their day’s work after Baltimore’s Josh Lester grounded out to end the top of the ninth inning with the Orioles trailing 7-4, officially ending the spring training contest in Florida on Tuesday. But the teams decided to play the bottom of the ninth anyway, with Orioles catcher Maverick Handley calling the balls and strikes.
