The Presidents jumped to a 35-0 lead at the half and rolled past the Yellowjackets, closing the PAC regular season at home.  Senior EJ Thompson ran for a pair of touchdowns for W&J (8-2). Joey Koroly and Jack Ryan adding rushing TDs for the Red & Black who look to host an ECAC Bowl next week. Quarterbacks Colton Jones and Justin Heacock combined to go 22-of-26 for 300 yards and three touchdowns.  Andrew Wolf, Nick Hrivnak and Justin Huss caught those scoring throws. Huss also returned a punt for a score. The ECAC Bowl lineup will be announced on Monday.

Calif. Univ. of PA 24, Bloomsburg 9
Isaiah Cameron and Derek Lockhart ran for touchdowns, Noah Mitchell hit Richie Sykes with a 15-yard scoring pass and Anthony Beitko kicked an early 24-yard field goal, leading the Vulcans to the win, improving to 9-1. The California defense forced four turnovers in the win.  Entering the day, CalU was ranked seventh in the region but the “earned access” rule may leave the Vulcans outside the NCAA Division II playoff field. Those selections will be announced Sunday afternoon. Slippery Rock (8-2), the only team to beat CalU, lost in the conference championship game. The Rock was ranked one spot ahead of CalU entering the weekend.

The Tartans (8-2) won their seventh straight game and secured a share of the Presidents Athletic Conference title. The victory also clinched the PAC’s automatic bid to the Division III playoffs, CMU’s second appearance in the national championship bracket under head coach Rich Lackner who is retiring following 36 years at his alma mater. CMU has now won eight PAC titles, joining former members John Carroll and Thomas More in a tie for second behind Washington & Jefferson’s 26 championships.

Pens Fall To Senators In Ottawa

OTTAWA, Ontario — Drake Batherson had two goals and two assists, and the Ottawa Senators defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-3 Saturday night to end a four-game losing streak. Zach Sanford, Michael Del Zotto, Parker Kelly and Tim Stutzle also scored for the Senators, while Jacob Bernard-Docker and Lassi Thomson each picked up their first points in the NHL with assists. Del Zotto also had an assist, Thomas Chabot had two assists and Filip Gustavsson made 28 saves for the win. Evan Rodrigues scored twice and Kasperi Kapanen once for the Penguins, and Casey DeSmith turned aside 18 of 23 shots. Batherson scored at 9:40 of the third period to give the Senators a 5-0 lead, but Kapanen and Rodrigues scored at 11:49 and 12:55, respectively, and Rodrigues scored again just over three minutes later to make it 5-3.

Peters Township took a 14-6 lead into the lockerroom at the half, but couldn’t hold off defending champion Pine-Richland, falling to the Rams, 20-14. Sam Miller and Bryce Thompson connected twice in the first half on long TD passes but Pine-Richland’s defense stuffed the Indians’ offense after the break. Peters Township got a pair of takeaways in the third quarter but couldn’t take advantage. Early in the fourth, Pine-Richland recovered a fumbled pass at the Peters 37 yards line, scoring to take the lead eight plays later on a seven-yard run by Ryan Palmieri.

Steelers Not Taking Lions For Granted

PITTSBURGH (AP) – The Pittsburgh Steelers say they’re taking nothing for granted when they face winless Detroit. The Steelers are riding a four-game winning streak following a 1-3 start that has thrust them into contention in the AFC North. Despite his team’s surge, Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger says the Steelers know they have a long way to go. Detroit is the NFL’s last winless team at 0-8. The Lions are hopeful veteran left tackle Taylor Decker can make his 2021 debut. Decker missed the first two months of the season due to a finger injury. The Lions are seeking their first win in Pittsburgh since 1955.

Huggins Earns Career Win 903 Over Pitt

UNDATED (AP) – West Virginia coach Bob Huggins earned career victory No. 903 in the Mountaineers’ 74-59 win over Pittsburgh. Huggins ties Bob Knight for fifth place all-time among Division I coaches. Next up on the list is another Hall of Fame coach, Roy Williams, who retired in April with 903 wins. West Virginia forced 32 turnovers in improving to 2-0 on the season. Both teams shot better than 50% from the floor. Jalen Bridges led the Mountaineers with 18 points and Taz Sherman added 17. John Hugley scored 17 points for Pittsburgh. The Panthers have lost their first two games.

Kentucky Blows Out RMU

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -Kellan Grady had 19 points, including four 3-pointers, Oscar Tshiebwe had 20 rebounds and 14 points and No. 10 Kentucky blew out Robert Morris 100-60 in its home opener on Friday night. Daimion Collins went 7 of 8 for 14 points and had a couple of highlight-reel dunks late in the game. Keion Brooks Jr. and Davion Mintz added 13 points each and TyTy Washington had 10. Michael Green III had 12 points and Kahliel Spear 10 for Robert Morris.

Pitt Outlasts Tar Heels

PITTSBURGH (AP) – No. 25 Pittsburgh wasted a 16-point lead before maintaining control of first place in the ACC’s Coastal Division.  Kenny Pickett hit Lucas Krull for an 11-yard touchdown pass in overtime to give the Panthers a 30-23 victory over North Carolina. Pickett completed 25 of 43 passes for 346 yards with three touchdowns and an interception on a night he became the school’s career leader in passing yards.  Sam Howell passed for 296 yards with two touchdowns for the Tar Heels.

Dolphins Stun Ravens

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) – The Miami Dolphins have their first winning streak of the season following their best win of the year.  Tua Tagovailoa came off the bench and capped his night with a 1-yard sneak for a score with 2:19 left to secure the Dolphins’ 22-10 victory over Baltimore. Tagovailoa threw for 158 yards in relief of Jacoby Brissett, who passed for 156 yards before needing to depart in the third quarter with an injured right knee. Tagovailoa couldn’t start because of a fractured finger on his throwing hand, but he was good enough to help Miami improve to 3-7. Xavien Howard forced a fumble and returned it 49 yards for a touchdown in the victory.  Lamar Jackson completed 26 of 43 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown for the 6-3 Ravens, who ended an NFL-record run of 51 regular-season games with at least 14 points.

Carter, Jarry Lead Pens Over Panthers

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Jeff Carter scored the deciding goal in a shootout and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Florida Panthers 3-2. Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry, who has struggled in shootouts this season, gave an emphatic fist pump after stopping Anton Lundell to win it. Jarry also denied Aleksander Barkov and former Penguin Patric Hornqvist. Jonathan Huberdeau scored in the tiebreaker for the Panthers, who lost their third straight after opening the season with 10 wins in 11 games. Bryan Rust also converted in the shootout for Florida, and goalie Sergei Bobrovsky stopped Jake Guentzel and Kris Letang. Evan Rodrigues scored his fourth goal and Teddy Blueger his third in regulation for Pittsburgh. Jarry made 36 saves.

Pitt Set For Big ACC Matchup With North Carolina

PITTSBURGH (AP) – North Carolina visits No. 25 Pittsburgh with a chance to create some chaos in the ACC’s Coastal Division race. The Panthers have the inside track for the division title and a spot in the ACC title game, but that would change if the Tar Heels can beat a ranked opponent for the second time in six days. The showdown features two of the best quarterbacks in the country. Pitt’s Kenny Pickett has thrust himself into Heisman contention while throwing for 29 touchdowns against three interceptions. North Carolina’s Sam Howell has proven he’s as dangerous with his legs as he is with his arm. Howell has run for 699 yards and eight touchdowns this season.
