Montreal, Quebec (AP) — Mike Hoffman scored 63 seconds into overtime as the Montreal Canadiens completed the comeback with a 5-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night. Sean Monahan’s power-play goal at 14:42 of the third period tied the game for Montreal and forced the overtime. Nick Suzuki scored one goal and added one assist, Josh Anderson and Cole Caufield also scored for the Canadiens, who boosted their winning streak to three games. Jake Allen allowed four goals and made 19 saves. Rickard Rakell and Jeff Petry each recorded a goal and assist, while Evgeni Malkin and Brock McGinn added goals for the Penguins.

Pens Top Maple Leafs

TORONTO (AP) – Brock McGinn and Jake Guentzel scored in the third period, helping the Pittsburgh Penguins top the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2. Evgeni Malkin had a goal and an assist for Pittsburgh, which earned its second straight win since its seven-game slide. Jason Zucker also scored, and Casey DeSmith made 28 stops. William Nylander and Zach Aston-Reese scored for Toronto in its second straight loss. Erik Kallgren made 19 saves.

Watt Is Back, Fitzpatrick Is Out

PITTSBURGH (AP) — T.J. Watt is officially back for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team has activated Watt off injured reserve in time for a visit from the New Orleans Saints. Watt hasn’t played since tearing his left pectoral muscle in a Week 1 win over Cincinnati. While Watt is back, the Steelers will be without safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. Pittsburgh ruled Fitzpatrick out with an appendix issue.

WVU Beats Pitt In Basketball “Backyard Brawl”

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Joe Toussaint scored 18 points, Erik Stevenson added 16 and West Virginia beat Pittsburgh 81-56 in the Backyard Brawl. West Virginia won its sixth straight over Pittsburgh), the longest streak in the series between the schools 75 miles apart. Pittsburgh went nearly five minutes without a field goal, allowing West Virginia to extend a nine-point halftime lead to 56-40. After Pittsburgh trimmed the deficit to 59-49 with 9:02 left, West Virginia finished the game on a 22-7 run. The Mountaineers shot 53% from the floor and forced 19 Pittsburgh turnovers. Pirates Acquire First Baseman Ji-Man Choi

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired first baseman Ji-Man Choi from Tampa Bay on Thursday in exchange for minor league pitcher Sam Hartman. The move gives the Pirates a veteran bat with a chance to provide the team with a short-term solution at a position it has struggled to fill since trading Josh Bell to Washington in December 2020. The 31-year-old Choi is a career .239 hitter in seven seasons with 61 home runs and 225 RBIs in 486 games spread among four teams. Choi spent the last four-plus seasons with Tampa Bay. He hit .233 with 11 home runs and 52 RBIs in 113 games with the Rays in 2022. First base has been a revolving door for the Pirates since Bell’s departure. The players who made at least one start at first base for Pittsburgh in 2022 included Kevin Chavis, Yoshi Tsutsugo, Josh VanMeter, Bligh Madris and Daniel Vogelbach.

Foreman Leads Panthers Over Falcons

(AP) – D’Onta Foreman carried 31 times for 130 yards and a touchdown, Laviska Shenault added a 41-yard burst to the end zone and the Carolina Panthers beat the Atlanta Falcons 25-15 on a rainy night. The Panthers piled up a season-high 232 yards on the ground, and Eddy Pineiro kicked four field goals after he missed two critical kicks in a 37-34 overtime loss to the Falcons 11 days earlier. Marcus Mariota finished 19 of 30 for 186 yards and two touchdowns, but was sacked five times and intercepted once. Atlanta fell to 4-6, leaving Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers alone atop the NFC South at 4-5.

Snyder, Commanders, NFL, Goodell Sued By DC Attorney General

WASHINGTON (AP) – The District of Columbia attorney general’s office has filed a civil consumer protection lawsuit against the Washington Commanders, owner Dan Snyder, the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell. D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine announced the civil complaint for colluding to deceive fans at a news conference. Racine says the team and league violated D.C. consumers’ rights based on what they knew about the organization’s workplace misconduct. The Commanders are the subject of multiple ongoing investigations into workplace culture and potential financial improprieties. Lawyers representing the team say the Commanders welcome this opportunity to defend the organization in a court of law.

Penguins Beat Capitals To Snap 7-Game Skid

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Washington Capitals 4-1 to end their seven-game losing streak. Pittsburgh finished the game down two defensemen because of injuries. Forward Jeff Carter even skated a shift out of position in the third period when another defenseman left the ice. The Penguins scored two soft goals on Darcy Kuemper to win for the first time since Oct. 22. The skid was the organization’s longest since losing 10 in a row in 2006 during Sidney Crosby’s rookie season. The Capitals lost for the sixth time in eight games.

Bills QB Josh Allen Listed As Day-To-Day

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) – Bills coach Sean McDermott says Josh Allen will miss practice because of an injury to his throwing elbow, but the star quarterback could play against the NFC North-leading Minnesota Vikings this weekend. McDermott wouldn’t reveal the severity of the injury and stuck mostly to an opening statement in which he referred to Allen as being day to day. If Allen can’t play, the Bills would turn one of the NFL’s best offenses over to backup Case Keenum. Allen was hurt in the final minutes of a 20-17 loss to the New York Jets last weekend.
