Nolan DiLucia threw three first-half touchdown passes and ran 39 yards for the Indians’ final score as Peters Township topped defending champion Pine-Richland, 43-17, earning its first-ever WPIAL football championship. Mickey Vaccarrello, Ethan Wertman and Carter Shanafelt each had TD grabs in the second quarter. Vinny Sarcone and Preston Blair ran for Peters touchdowns in the third. The Indians defense held Pine-Richland to 151 yards and 9 first downs. Peters Township travels to play Cathedral Prep (Erie) next weekend in the PIAA quarterfinals.
Fort Cherry rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit to beat Bishop Canevin for the second time this season. The Rangers return to the WPIAL championship game for the first time since 2001 when they lost to Rochester in the first-ever WPIAL game at then-Heinz Field. Matt Sieg rushed for 157 yards and scored five touchdowns to lead Fort Cherry. The sophomore also passed for over 100 yards and now has put up more than 3,100 yards total offense for the year. His last two scores turned a 21-20 deficit into a 33-21 lead in the game’s final five minutes. Fort Cherry will play #1 South Side at Acrisure Stadium next Friday morning.
Wash High wasn’t as fortunate, falling to Beaver Falls. The Little Prexies got three defensive touchdowns and held the Tigers to just two first downs in the second half but committed five turnovers of their own, setting Beaver Falls up twice inside the WHS five yard line. Isaiah Thomas and Jaden Nemeth had interception return touchdowns while Zxavian Willis recovered a Beaver Falls fumble in the end zone for a score, his second touchdown of the night. The NFL is investigating why the Cincinnati Bengals did not list Joe Burrow on their injury report before Thursday night’s game at Baltimore. That’s according to a person familiar with the decision who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the review is not being discussed publicly. Burrow left the game in the second quarter with a wrist injury that will end his season. The Bengals had posted and later deleted a video on social media that showed Burrow getting off a bus with his right hand in what appeared to be a soft cast. Burrow says he was wearing a compression sleeve that was unrelated to the injury.

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Several people familiar with the visit told The Associated Press that former Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco worked out for the Cleveland Browns, who are still sorting through their changing quarterback situation. The 38-year-old Flacco could be an option for the Browns, who lost Deshaun Watson for the season earlier this week with a broken bone in his shoulder. Flacco is the only QB who worked out Friday, said the people who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team does not publicly disclose player workouts. A 15-year veteran, Flacco did not sign a contract before leaving. He rallied the New York Jets to an improbable comeback win over the Browns last season.

The AFC North-leading Ravens completed a head-to-head sweep of Cincinnati and moved to 2 1/2 games ahead of the last-place Bengals. And that’s far from Cincinnati’s only problem. BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will miss the rest of this season after fracturing his right shoulder in Sunday’s win over Baltimore. Watson will undergo surgery to repair the fracture, which happened when he was hit in the first quarter against the Ravens. Watson, who also injured his left ankle, stayed in the game and went 14 of 14 in the second half while leading the Browns to a last-second 33-31 win. The team says Watson is expected back next season, his third since signing a $230 million fully guaranteed contract last year despite allegations of sexual misconduct while he played for Houston that led to him being suspended for 11 games by the NFL. Coach Kevin Stefanski said rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson will start Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers (6-3) in a key AFC North matchup. It will be the second start for Thompson-Robinson, a fifth-round pick from UCLA who made an emergency start on Oct. 1 against Baltimore when Watson was ruled out just before kickoff with a shoulder strain.
