Packers Set To Host Commanders In Thursday Night Football

September 11, 2025 4:30 am

Micah Parsons ran down Jared Goff for his first sack with the Green Bay Packers. Now, he’ll be chasing Jayden Daniels. Fresh off a convincing victory over the two-time defending NFC North champion Lions, the Packers host the Washington Commanders to kick off Week 2. The Commanders ran for 220 yards, including 68 by Daniels, in their win over the Giants. Without Kenny Clark stuffing the middle, the Packers still shut down Detroit’s run game. Parsons played 45% of the snaps just 10 days after the two-time All-Pro pass rusher was acquired from Dallas in a blockbuster deal. He should see more action on short rest.

Pirates Fall In Extra Innings In Baltimore

September 10, 2025 4:27 am

BALTIMORE (AP) — Samuel Basallo hit an RBI single in the 11th inning that was initially ruled a foul ball to give the Baltimore Orioles a 3-2 walk-off win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Basallo’s popup to left grazed off the glove of left fielder Tommy Pham, landed on the chalk in the outfield grass, and was ruled foul. After a review, it was ruled a hit to drive in Gunnar Henderson for the Orioles third straight walk-off win. Jeremiah Jackson gave the Orioles a 2-1 lead with a solo homer in the sixth, but Pham hit a solo homer in the top of the ninth to make it 2-all.

Sidney Crosby Understands Trade Talk

September 10, 2025 4:33 am

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Sidney Crosby says he understands why trade rumors swirl around him, with the Pittsburgh Penguins having missed the playoffs each of the past three seasons. Going into another with little hope of contending, the now 38-year-old Stanley Cup champion has heard all the buzz about going to Colorado or Montreal and realizes it comes with losing hockey. Speaking to reporters at the NHL player media tour in Las Vegas, Crosby struck a balanced tone about the buzz, his current circumstances as part of a rebuilding organization and the desire of other teams and fan bases wanting him.

Eagles’ Jalen Carter Fined $57,222 For Spitting

September 10, 2025 4:29 am

Jalen Carter’s penalty for spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott sends a message to the rest of the league. Carter is losing $57,222 for the infraction, the equivalent of his game check for Week 1 because the NFL considers the punishment a one-game suspension with time served. The Pro Bowl defensive tackle didn’t play a snap after he was ejected from Philadelphia’s 24-20 victory over Dallas on Thursday. Carter is expected to be on the field when the Eagles face the Kansas City Chiefs in a Super Bowl rematch on Sunday. The team could impose its own discipline such as benching Carter for the first play, the first series or longer.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) — Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco has been detained by police and admitted to a mental health clinic in the Dominican Republic. Authorities said on Tuesday his family requested the move, and it is not linked to any legal issues. Earlier this year, Franco was found guilty of sexually abusing a minor and received a two-year suspended sentence. Last weekend, he reported $16,000 stolen from a resort, but his attorney later claimed the money was found. Franco disagreed, insisting it had been stolen. His future in Major League Baseball remains uncertain, although he says he is still training.

The Vikings and coach Kevin O’Connell are counting on the former Michigan star after he missed his rookie season due to a knee injury, and he delivered when it mattered.

Aaron Rodgers Sends Message To Skeptics

September 9, 2025 4:32 am

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers let Aaron Rodgers get ready for the season at his own pace. The four-time MVP repaid that trust with a four-touchdown performance against the New York Jets in his first game in black and gold. The Steelers won 34-32, proving Rodgers still has plenty to offer at 41. Tomlin expressed confidence in Rodgers, who felt he needed to prove himself after being let go by the Jets. While the Steelers’ defense needs improvement, especially against the run, there’s optimism about their Rodgers-led offense heading into a Week 2 visit by Seattle.

The Dodgers rallied for a 3-1 victory, maintaining their one-game lead over San Diego in the NL West. Glasnow struck out 11 over seven innings in his first career start against Colorado. Scott secured his 21st save after Ritter’s hit. On Saturday, Yoshinobu Yamamoto lost a no-hitter in the ninth against Baltimore, who won 4-3.
