Penguins Trade Defenseman Brett Kulak To Colorado

February 25, 2026 4:25 am

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Penguins have traded defenseman Brett Kulak to the Colorado Avalanche in return for defenseman Samuel Girard and a second-round pick in the 2028 draft. The deal marks the second time Kulak has been traded this season. Pittsburgh initially picked him up last fall in the trade that sent Tristan Jarry to Edmonton. Kulak has one goal and eight assists in 56 combined games. The 27-year-old Girard has three goals and nine assists this season for the Avalanche.

Tiger Woods Nearing Decision On The Masters & Ryder Cup

February 25, 2026 4:28 am

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Tiger Woods has a few big decisions facing him next month. Getting most of the attention is whether he will play in the Masters. But he also is facing what has been described to The Associated Press as a soft deadline to be Ryder Cup captain. He’s the top choice. But the PGA of America is hopeful of getting an answer sooner rather than later so it doesn’t wait to long like it did last time. Key to these decisions is what occupies most of Woods’ time. He’s the chief architect in the biggest overhaul of the PGA Tour schedule.

February 24, 2026 4:28 am

Duke’s win against Michigan has pushed the Blue Devils to No. 1 in The Associated Press men’s college basketball poll. Monday’s poll marked a record 148th time at No. 1 for Duke. Duke claimed 56 of 61 first-place votes to supplant the Wolverines. Arizona moved up two spots to No. 2. Michigan, Iowa State and Houston rounded out the top five. Lindsey Vonn Says Surgery Saved Her Leg

February 24, 2026 4:27 am

VAIL, Colo. (AP) — Lindsey Vonn says she nearly lost her left leg following a crash at the Milan Cortina Olympics. Vonn detailed the extent her injuries in an Instagram post. The 41-year-old Vonn says the crash on Feb. 8 caused compartment syndrome in her left leg after the crash. The condition traps swelling and blood in the muscle. It cuts off blood flow and can cause permanent damage. Vonn says surgeon Tom Hackett performed an emergency fasciotomy, saving her leg. Vonn added she also broke her right ankle in the crash and is currently in a wheelchair.

USA Hockey Claims Olympic Gold

February 23, 2026 1:10 am

For the first time since 1980, Team USA has won gold in men’s hockey.  Thanks to a goal from Jack Hughes that secured the win and saves from goalie Connor Hellebuyck during the game, Team USA won 2-1 in overtime.  The United States scored first, on the first shot of the game at the hands of Matt Boldy, six minutes into the contest.  Even though Team Canada increased the pressure — and outshot the United States — throughout the second, Team USA maintained a lead until two minutes remained. That’s when Cale Makar’s wrister ripped past Hellebuyck.  With plenty of chances on both sides but no goals to show for it at the end of the third, the team’s headed into 3-on-3 overtime to decide the gold medal winner.  Sidney Crosby, captain for Team Canada, practiced with the team on Saturday, but did not play in Sunday’s match-up.  Crosby was hurt in their game with Czechia last week.

Bridgeman Holds On For First PGA Tour Title

February 23, 2026 4:27 am

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jacob Bridgeman held on to win the Genesis Invitational at Riviera for his first PGA Tour title. It was a lot harder than he expected. Bridgeman started with a six-shot lead and expanded it to seven with 12 holes to play. But he didn’t make a birdie over the last 15 holes in his closing round of 72. Rory McIlroy and Kurt Kitayama made late charges that made Bridgeman sweat it out. They finished one shot behind. Bridgeman is the first player to make his Riviera debut and leave with a trophy since Adam Scott in 2005.
