Steelers Place T.J. Watt On Injured Reserve List

September 15, 2022 11:02 am

PITTSBURGH (AP) – The Pittsburgh Steelers have placed star outside linebacker T.J. Watt on injured reserve. The move means Watt will miss a minimum of four games while recovering from a left pectoral injury. The Steelers already had ruled Watt out for this week’s game against New England. The NFL’s reigning defensive player of the year sustained the injury in the fourth quarter of last week’s overtime victory against Cincinnati. The Steelers filled Watt’s spot on the 53-man roster by signing David Anenih off Tennessee’s practice squad.

Seahawks Survive Broncos To End Wild Week 1 In NFL

September 13, 2022 3:03 am

SEATTLE (AP) — Geno Smith threw two first-half touchdown passes, Denver fumbled twice at the 1-yard line in the second half, and the Seahawks beat the Broncos 17-16 in Russell Wilson’s return to Seattle. Brandon McManus missed a 64-yard field goal attempt with 20 seconds left and the Seahawks escaped with another wild victory involving Wilson at quarterback. Except this time Wilson was the opponent and there will be plenty of questions about Denver coach Nathaniel Hackett’s late-game clock management and decisions in his first game. Denver faced fourth-and-5 at the Seattle 46 and had three timeouts left, but the Broncos ran significant time off the clock before Hackett called timeout and decided to have McManus try the long field goal.

Head coach Pat Narduzzi offered no update on the status of either quarterback. Dartmouth transfer Derek Kyler and redshirt freshman Nate Yarnell have been competing to be third on the depth chart behind Slovis and Patti.

Steelers Pull Out Wild OT Win In Cincinnati

CINCINNATI (AP) – Chris Boswell kicked a 53-yard field goal as time expired in overtime and the Pittsburgh Steelers overcame T.J. Watt’s injury late in the fourth quarter to beat the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in a sloppy season opener for both teams. Watt had one of four interceptions off Joe Burrow, who rebounded from a lousy start and rallied Cincinnati from a 17-6 halftime deficit. His 6-yard touchdown pass to Ja’Marr Chase tied it at 20 with 2 seconds left in regulation, but the game went to overtime after Minkah Fitzpatrick blocked Evan McPherson’s point-after try. McPherson and Boswell missed potential winning field goals in overtime.

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year left the field and headed to the locker room shortly before the game went to overtime.
