November 15, 2021 3:56 am

PITTSBURGH (AP) – The Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions slogged their way to a 16-16 tie in an ugly nearly four-hour marathon that produced more comedy than highlights. Pittsburgh’s Mason Rudolph completed 30 of 50 passes for 242 yards with a touchdown and an interception while filling in for Ben Roethlisberger, who was placed on the COVID-19 list on Saturday night. Najee Harris ran for 105 yards but the Steelers (5-3-1) saw their four-game winning streak halted in the dank mist at rainy Heinz Field. De’Andre Swift ran for a career-high 130 yards for the Lions (0-8-1), who relied heavily on the run to avoid a ninth straight loss.

AP Top 25: Alabama Jumps Cincy To #2

November 15, 2021 3:58 am

UNDATED (AP) – Alabama has jumped Cincinnati to No. 2 behind Georgia in The Associated Press college football poll.  Georgia is a unanimous No. 1 for the sixth consecutive week. The switch from Cincinnati at No. 2 to Alabama was more about the Bearcats than the Crimson Tide. Cincinnati remained unbeaten after winning at USF 45-28, but it was the fourth straight week the Bearcats played a team with a losing record and found themselves in a competitive game in the second half.  Meanwhile, Oklahoma dropped eight spots to No. 12 after losing for the first time this season. So behind No. 3 Cincinnati, Oklahoma’s tumble meant No. 4 Oregon, No. 5 Ohio State, No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 7 Michigan State, No. 8 Michigan and No. 9 Oklahoma State all moved up one spot.  The Sooners lost to Baylor who moved up to No. 11 behind No. 10 Mississippi.

Cal U Snubbed by NCAA

November 14, 2021 5:22 pm

California University of Pennsylvania was not invited to the NCAA Division II football championships, despite its 9-1 record. The Vulcans lost to Slippery Rock a week ago and that head-to-head result trumped Cal U’s better overall record. In addition, the NCAA’s “earned access” rule, granting playoff access to conference champions who league does not have a team in the region’s top seven spot, put Findlay in and took the berth away from the Vulcans.

The 39-year-old Roethlisberger has completed 64.5% of his passes this season with 10 touchdowns, four interceptions for a 90 passer rating.

The Rock was ranked one spot ahead of CalU entering the weekend.

Carnegie-Mellon 24, Case Western Reserve 6
The Tartans (8-2) won their seventh straight game and secured a share of the Presidents Athletic Conference title. The victory also clinched the PAC’s automatic bid to the Division III playoffs, CMU’s second appearance in the national championship bracket under head coach Rich Lackner who is retiring following 36 years at his alma mater. CMU has now won eight PAC titles, joining former members John Carroll and Thomas More in a tie for second behind Washington & Jefferson’s 26 championships.
