Bengals Fall To Philadelphia

October 28, 2024 4:35 am

CINCINNATI (AP) — With Joe Burrow at quarterback and an array of talented receivers, Cincinnati has a dangerous passing attack. When it comes to running the ball, well, the Bengals are struggling. Cincinnati had just 58 yards on the ground on a 37-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. It averaged just 2.9 yards per carry, continuing a season-long problem. The 3-5 Bengals were trying to reach .500 after posting consecutive road wins against the New York Giants and Cleveland. They rushed for 121 yards and two TDs in their 17-7 win against New York, but they had just 59 yards on the ground in last weekend’s 21-14 win at the Browns.

LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Jayden Daniels connected with Noah Brown on a 52-yard Hail Mary as time expired to give the Washington Commanders an 18-15 victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Chicago had taken its first lead with 23 seconds left in the game, going ahead 15-12 on a 1-yard TD run by Roschon Johnson after a pass-interference penalty on the Commanders.

Ohtani Expected To Play As World Series Shifts To Big Apple

October 28, 2024 4:32 am

NEW YORK (AP) — Shohei Ohtani is set to play for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 3 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium on Monday night despite a partially dislocated left shoulder, according to manager Dave Roberts. Ohtani planned to take some swings at Yankee Stadium during the Dodgers’ workout on Sunday night. Roberts said pain tolerance was the key factor. Roberts says: “I just don’t see him not playing Game 3” and adds “if he feels good enough to go, then I see no reason why he wouldn’t be in there.” Ohtani did not travel with the team to New York in order to undergo imaging. He was on a separate flight. The Dodgers lead the series 2-0 after winning both games in L.A.

Grand Slam Lifts Dodgers Over Yankees

October 26, 2024 5:36 am

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Freddie Freeman hit the first game-ending grand slam in World Series history with two outs in the 10th inning to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 6-3 victory over the New York Yankees in a drama-filled opener. Hobbled by a badly sprained right ankle, Freeman homered on the first pitch he saw — an inside fastball from Nestor Cortes — and raised his bat high before beginning his trot as the sellout crowd of 52,394 roared. In the top of the 10th, Anthony Volpe grounded into a fielder’s choice to shortstop, scoring Jazz Chisholm Jr. from third after he stole two bases, to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead. It was the third straight World Series opener to go extra innings.

Pick-6 Party For Pitt As They Pound Syracuse

October 25, 2024 4:30 am

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Rasheem Biles, Kyle Louis and Braylan Lovelace all returned first-half interceptions for touchdowns and No. 19 Pittsburgh breezed past Syracuse 41-13. Pitt improved to 7-0 for the first time since 1982 behind a defense that harassed Kyle McCord from the first snap and never relented. McCord threw five picks in all as the Orange fell to 5-2. Pitt’s three pick-6s were the most in an FBS game since USC had three against Rice in 2022. Eli Holstein threw for 108 yards and two scores for Pitt, which has won 19 of its last 23 meetings with Syracuse.
