NHL Playoffs Resume

August 29, 2020 4:30 am

(AP) – The NHL’s second-round playoff series will resume with three games each on Saturday and Sunday after players prompted the league to postpone two days of action to protest racial injustice. In the NHL’s Eastern Conference hub city of Toronto, Tampa Bay and Boston will play Game 4 of their series on Saturday, followed by Philadelphia and the New York Islanders playing Game 3 at night. Vegas and Vancouver will play Game 3 of their series at night in the West hub city of Edmonton, Alberta. The postponements of four games have led the NHL to push back the potential completion of the second-round schedule by as many as two days should three of the series require a Game 7.

August 28, 2020 3:59 am

UNDATED (AP) – An unprecedented walkout over racial injustice has postponed a second day of the NBA playoffs.   The NBA decided to postpone three more games Thursday to join the three that weren’t played Wednesday, when players from six NBA teams decided not to play postseason games in a boycott that quickly reverberated across other professional leagues. The Milwaukee Bucks initiated the action in response to the shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man, by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin.   NBA spokesman Mike Bass said the league hoped to resume Friday or Saturday.
President Donald Trump criticized the NBA’s action, telling reporters that the NBA has become like “a political organization.”  The WNBA also called off its three games for a second night.

Roethlisberger Ready To Go

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger says his surgically repaired right elbow feels better than it has in years. The 38-year-old says the elbow had been bothering him for quite some time but now he is able to throw pain-free. While the team is trying to keep Roethlisberger on a “pitch count” as he prepares for his 17th season, he’s taken on a heavier workload this camp than he has in previous years.
