PITTSBURGH (AP) — Henry Davis hit a tiebreaking solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 2-1 victory over Philadelphia after the slumping Phillies placed star first baseman Bryce Harper on the injured list before the game with right wrist inflammation. Davis hit his fourth home run of the season to left-center off Ranger Suarez (4-1) on a first-pitch changeup to snap a 1-1 tie. PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Andrew Heaney left his start in the seventh inning against the Philadelphia Phillies with left calf cramping. Heaney threw a wild pitch that went to the backstop, and an athletic trainer immediately visited the mound. Heaney threw three warmup pitches and then walked to the dugout. Isaac Mattson relieved with the game tied at 1, a runner on third base and none out. The rookie retired the next three batters to strand the runner. Heaney allowed a run on Kyle Schwarber’s homer in the first inning and four hits in six-plus innings Saturday with five strikeouts and no walks.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Sovereignty beat Journalism in a Kentucky Derby rematch to win the 157th Belmont Stakes, the second hosted at Saratoga. Sovereignty and jockey Junior Alvarado traversed the field of eight on a fast Saratoga track after downpours throughout the morning and early afternoon dried up before post time. Journalism was second and Baeza was third — the same 1-2-3 as the Kentucky Derby. Sovereignty led off the first leg of the Triple Crown by winning the Derby in early May. The Bill Mott-trained colt also edged Journalism in that race.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Adam Frazier had three hits and scored the winning run on Nick Gonzalez’s sacrifice fly in the ninth inning, helping the Pittsburgh Pirates rally for a 5-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night. David Bednar (1-4) struck out the side in the ninth. Frazier and Jared Triolo started the ninth with singles off Jordan Romano (0-3). Isiah Kiner-Falefa loaded the bases with a bunt before Oneil Cruz struck out looking. Gonzales then lifted a 2-2 slider to the warning track, allowing Frazier to score. Trea Turner gave Philadelphia an early lead, getting on with a single for his first of three hits and taking third on a double steal in the first before scoring on a grounder from Nick Castellanos. The Pirates’ Bryan Reynolds hit an RBI single the next inning. Turner hit a double to right and Alec Bohm brought him in with a single to left, putting the Phillies back ahead 2-1 in the third. Reynolds tied it again with his eighth home run of the season into the left-field bleachers. Turner drove in two with a two-out single for a 4-2 lead in the fourth. Henry Davis answered with a two-run homer the same inning.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Mia Scott hit a grand slam, Teagan Kavan claimed another win and Texas defeated Texas Tech 10-4 in Game 3 of the Women’s College World Series championship series on Friday night to win its first national title. Kavan, a sophomore, allowed no earned runs in the 31 2/3 innings she pitched at the World Series, going 4-0 with a save for the Longhorns (56-12). Texas Tech star pitcher NiJaree Canady, who had thrown every pitch for the Red Raiders through their first five World Series games, was pulled after one inning in Game 3. She allowed five runs on five hits and only threw 25 pitches in the deciding game.

Friday’s series opener between the Washington Wild Things and the Evansville Otters was postponed due to rain in the Evansville, IN area. The game was to be the first of 12 between the teams this year. Friday’s game will be made up later in the season due to more forecasted rain. It has been tentatively re-scheduled as part of a June 19 doubleheader.

Meadow Ferri dominated in the circle and drove in the game’s only run as Chartiers-Houston topped Seneca, 1-0, in Thursday’s PIAA 2A softball quarterfinal. Ferri allowed only two singles and a walk in the complete-game win, striking out a dozen. The teams went scoreless to the bottom of the fifth when Ella Richey singled with one out. Lauren Rush grounded out with Richey taking second. Ferri singled sharply to center, scoring Richey easily. Chartiers-Houston is now 11-8 all-time in PIAA quarterfinals. PITTSBURGH (AP) — Framber Valdez pitched seven strong innings, Isaac Paredes homered twice, and the Houston Astros beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-2 after a lengthy rain delay. Valdez (6-4) won his fifth straight decision by limiting the Pirates to two runs on five hits with three walks and a season-high 11 strikeouts after waiting out the delay that pushed the start of the game back 3 hours and 22 minutes. Paredes hit his 13th homer of the season leading off the fourth against Mitch Keller (1-8). His 14th, a two-run shot in the ninth, put the game away. Jared Triolo had two hits and scored twice for the Pirates.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Aaron Rodgers is back for a 21st season. The four-time NFL MVP agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The decision ends months of “Will he? Or won’t he?” speculation for Rodgers, who even visited the team’s facility in March but took his time before deciding to join Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh. Rodgers is coming off a season in which he threw 28 touchdowns against 11 interceptions for the Jets, who limped to a 5-12 finish. Financial terms of the deal were not announced.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Tyrese Haliburton scored with 0.3 seconds left for Indiana’s first and only lead of the game and the Pacers, the last-minute comeback kings of these playoffs, did it again to beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 111-110 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night. The Pacers were down by 15 with 9:42 left, matching the biggest fourth-quarter comeback in a finals game since Dallas came from 15 down to beat Miami on June 2, 2011.
