September 19, 2024 4:30 am

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Quarterback Justin Herbert did not practice on Wednesday as the Los Angeles Chargers began preparations for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Herbert’s right ankle got rolled up on during the third quarter of last Sunday’s 26-3 victory over the Carolina Panthers. He was not seen on the field at UNC Charlotte during the reporters’ viewing period, which occurred at the start of the two-hour session. The Chargers, 2-0 for the first time since 2012, remained in Charlotte this week with consecutive games in the Eastern time zone. Coach Jim Harbaugh said on Monday that X-rays on Herbert’s ankle were negative. Before Wednesday’s practice Harbaugh said he expects the fifth-year quarterback to continue to get healthier as the week goes along.

Crosby In It For The Long Haul In Pittsburgh

September 19, 2024 4:32 am

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (AP) — Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins are ready to hit the reset button. Pittsburgh narrowly missed the playoffs each of the last two years after a stretch of 16 consecutive appearances. Crosby recently signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him with the club until at least 2027. The 37-year-old says he was encouraged by the way Pittsburgh fought down the stretch last spring before being eliminated. The Penguins made a series of moves during the offseason to rebuild the roster around Crosby and longtime teammates Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang. Pittsburgh opens the 2024-25 season on Oct. 9 at home against the New York Rangers.

Tagovailoa will be sidelined for at least four games. He will be eligible to return in Week 8 when the Dolphins host Arizona, but has to complete a series of tests and assessments required by the NFL’s concussion protocol before he can return to the field.
