TORONTO (AP) — Yoshinobu Yamamoto beat Toronto for the second time in a week, slumping Mookie Betts hit a two-run single in a three-run third inning and the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers held off the Blue Jays 3-1 to force the World Series to a decisive Game 7. Yamamoto was not quite as sharp as in his Game 2 four-hitter. He lasted six innings and allowed an RBI single in the third by George Springer, who returned after missing two games with an injury to his right side. Rookie relievers Justin Wrobleski and Roki Sasaki combined for six outs before starter Tyler Glasnow came out of the bullpen to escape a ninth-inning jam and rescue the Dodgers.

The Bentworth girls & boys soccer teams swept WPIAL 1A championship matches Thursday night. The girls won their first-ever WPIAL title, beating #1 Sewickley Academy, 1-0. The boys claimed their third straight crown, beating Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, 3-1.
The girls match went scoreless deep into the second half when Brielle Dillon’s swept the ball forward and through the legs of the Panthers’ goal keeper with just 93 seconds left. Madelyn Johns was credited with the assist. Just moments earlier, Bentworth goalie Julia Brandau and defender Meredith Allender stopped a Sewickley corner kick on the goal line. The Bentworth girls will take on the District 5 runner-up in the first round of the PIAA playoffs on Tuesday.
Ryan Moessner scored twice, Adam Moessner had a goal and an assist as the boys delivered on a three-peat, topping OLSH for the second straight year in the finals. Ryan Moessner took a long feed from his brother nd scored less than three minutes into the match. Andre Kolocouris scored off a corner kick for the Chargers in the 25th minute, tying the match. Adam Moessner was set up by Caden Hackinson, breaking the tie with just under 10 minutes to play in the half. The Bearcats’ final goal came early in the second half, again, Ryan finding the net on a feed from Billy Moyer. Ryan Moessner now has 55 goals on the year, 143 in his career at Bentworth. Rust’s tip-in of Ryan Shea’s long pass from the point broke a 1-1 tie 6:29 into the third. Ben Kindel added an insurance goal a minute later. MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Lamar Jackson threw for 204 yards and four touchdowns, showing little rust in his return from a right hamstring strain, and the Baltimore Ravens routed the Miami Dolphins 28-6. Jackson completed 18 of 23 passes in his first start since Week 4 against Kansas City, and the Ravens won their second straight as they hope to make a run in the wide-open AFC North. Tight end Mark Andrews made two touchdown catches. Jackson’s other TD passes went to tight end Charlie Kolar and receiver Rashod Bateman. Derrick Henry rushed 119 yards on 19 carries. The Dolphins were undone by a slew of mistakes in the first half.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers shuffled their slumping lineup for Game 5 of the World Series. The changes did absolutely nothing to prevent another dismal offensive performance by their powerhouse lineup. The Dodgers managed just four hits against Toronto rookie Trey Yesavage and his bullpen during the Blue Jays’ 6-1 victory. Kiké Hernández’s third-inning homer was the Dodgers’ only extra-base hit, and they struck out a whopping 15 times. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts moved Mookie Betts down in the order for the first time in four years and benched Andy Pages.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have picked former bench coach Derek Shelton as their new manager, a person with knowledge of the decision confirmed Wednesday night. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team had not announced the hire. Major League Baseball encourages clubs to avoid spotlighting big moves during the World Series. Shelton served as manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates for five-plus years before he was fired just 40 games into this season. The 55-year-old was the bench coach for the Twins in 2018 and 2019 under two different managers, Paul Molitor and Rocco Baldelli.
