The Steelers won’t have Justin Fields back at quarterback next season. Fields has reached a two-year, $40 million deal that includes $30 million guaranteed with the New York Jets, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. As of Monday morning, Schefter said that Russell Wilson has still been in talks with the Steelers. At the same time, reports say veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers is under consideration to join the Steelers. “Rodgers and the Steelers are expected to talk and explore a union. The idea of Rodgers playing for Mike Tomlin is in play,” Schefter posted on X Monday morning. This all comes a day after the Pittsburgh Steelers traded for Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf. The NFL free agency officially begins at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans are making their first big move in free agency trying to fix a porous offensive line by bringing in Pittsburgh left tackle Dan Moore. That’s what a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press on Monday. The Titans have agreed to a four-year deal worth $82 million with $50 million guaranteed. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the team hasn’t announced the signing. The NFL Network first reported the deal. Contracts cannot be finalized until the new NFL year starts Wednesday afternoon. The Steelers also released veteran defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi, a move that will free up about $7 million in salary cap space ahead of free agency. Ogunjobi spent three years in Pittsburgh. The 30-year-old finished with a career-low 41 tackles in 2024 and had just 1 1/2 sacks, tied for the fewest since his rookie year with Cleveland in 2017. Pittsburgh also tendered an offer to restricted free agent running back Jaylen Warren. Warren has rushed for more than 1,600 yards in his three seasons in Pittsburgh.

Quarterback Sam Darnold has agreed on a three-year, $100.5 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Monday. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because teams can’t sign free agents until Wednesday. Darnold had his best season with the Minnesota Vikings in 2024, leading them to 14 wins. He replaces Geno Smith, who was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders last week.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Yankees ace Gerrit Cole will have season-ending Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Tuesday. The Yankees said the 34-year-old right-hander was examined Monday by Dr. Neal ElAttrache at the Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles. ElAttrache, the Dodgers’ head team physician, will operate. Cole experienced discomfort following his second spring training outing Thursday. New York also is missing another starting pitcher, AL Rookie of the Year Luis Gil, who will be sidelined for at least three months because of a strained lat muscle.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers finally have their established big-play wide receiver. The Seattle Seahawks are sending two-time Pro Bowler D.K. Metcalf to Pittsburgh for at least a second-round pick, two sources with knowledge of the deal tell The Associated Press. The sources spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the deal was not official. Metcalf will receive a new five-year, $150 million contract in Pittsburgh. His exodus from Seattle comes during a tumultuous stretch for the Seahawks, which dealt quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders last week.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Sidney Crosby scored twice, Evgeni Malkin also had a goal and Tristan Jarry made 30 saves and had an assist to help the Pittsburgh Penguins snap a four-game skid with a 3-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild. Jarry made his first start since being sent to the minors on Jan. 16 as Pittsburgh won for only the second time in regulation in its last 11 games. Ryan Hartman scored for Minnesota, which lost for the fifth time in seven games. In likely his last game against the franchise with which he won three Stanley Cups during 13 seasons, Marc-Andre Fleury made 20 saves.

Myles Garrett is staying in Cleveland after the Browns gave him a record four-year contract extension that makes the four-time All-Pro edge rusher the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. A person with knowledge of the details told The Associated Press that Garrett’s deal includes $122.8 million guaranteed, an average annual salary of $40 million with a total value of $204.8 million. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because terms weren’t announced. Garrett, the 2023 AP Defensive Player of the Year, had asked for a trade last month but the Browns were adamant about keeping the 29-year-old star in Cleveland.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — NFL MVP Josh Allen was rewarded with a contract extension worth $330 million, with an NFL record $250 million of it guaranteed, which makes him among the league’s highest-paid players. The Buffalo Bills announced the agreement, while two people with knowledge of the deal revealed the contract’s value to The Associated Press. The people spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity because the Bills did not release that figure, which was first reported by ESPN.com. The new contract adds two years to Allen’s contract and locks the 28-year-old in through the 2030 season. The extension comes following Allen’s seventh NFL season in which he became the Bills third player to earn NFL MVP.
