Chartiers-Houston blanked West Branch and Carmichaels rolled past Claysburg-Kimmel in the PIAA softball quarterfinals Thursday. The winners will meet in the state semis Monday, the fourth meeting of the year between the Section 2 foes. Meadow Ferri held West Branch to two hits while striking out 12 in the Bucs’ win. The Mikes got home runs from Carys McConnell and Ali Jacobs to cruise into semis for the first time in 25 years.
The best seasons ever for Bentworth softball and Avella baseball ended Thursday with quarterfinal losses. The Bearcats fell behind Laurel 4-0 and managed just two hits in the season-ending loss. The Eagles couldn’t solve Eden Christian sophomore Brady Hull who struck out 11 Avella batters over the game’s fist five innings. PIAA Brackets: Softball Baseball
