PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates are calling up 19-year-old shortstop Konnor Griffin, the top prospect in baseball, before the club’s home opener against the Baltimore Orioles. A person familiar with the decision tells The Associated Press the club is making the move because Griffin is the best shortstop in the organization. Griffin hit .438 with three doubles, an RBI and three stolen bases at Triple-A Indianapolis. Griffin’s arrival comes less than two years after the Pirates selected him with the ninth pick in the 2024 draft. He rocketed through the lower minors last season, hitting .333 with 21 homers, 94 RBIs and 65 stolen bases.
