Major League Baseball has announced the ‘Chill Mobile’ initiative, a mental health awareness initiative by Pirates Charities and Allegheny Health Network (AHN), as a finalist for the prestigious Allan H. Selig Award for Philanthropic Excellence. The award was created in 2010 to recognize the charitable and philanthropic efforts of MLB clubs. For two decades, Pirates Charities has worked to improve mental and physical health for area youth of all ages. In 2022, Pirates Charities furthered that commitment by partnering with AHN to launch Chill Mobile, an innovative and mobile mental health unit created to address the growing youth mental health crisis throughout Western Pennsylvania. Built from a retrofitted RV and designed as a welcoming, immersive space, Chill Mobile brings evidence based behavioral health programming directly to students, educators, and communities. The Chill Mobile unit visits upwards of 10 local schools and groups each year, providing education to groups that may otherwise have limited access to these resources. The program was developed around three core goals: reducing mental health stigma, expanding the reach of AHN’s successful school-based Chill Project model, and transforming the delivery of preventative behavioral health services across the region. Fans can vote now for the ‘Chill Mobile’ program at mlbtogether.com/selig, through Friday, October 16.
