Presidents Rout Westminster, Stay Unbeaten

September 17, 2023 1:32 am

Zach Cernuto scored on three of Washington & Jefferson’s first four possessions, leading the Presidents to a 48-3 win over Westminster. The junior running back tallied a pair of one-yard power runs around a five-yard TD catch from Jacob Pugh. The W&J quarterback added a seven-yard scoring pass to Raymond Holmes in the second half, part of a 14-for-22, 240 yard afternoon. The junior has now thrown for 830 yards and 10 touchdown passes on the season without an interception.  Not to be outdone by the offense, W&J’s defense recovered a fumble and snagged two interceptions to stay unbeaten in the league. The blowout snapped a run of eight straight games between the two decided by a touchdown or less. Owen Petrisek was the game’s leading rusher, picking up 88 yards on six second-half carries, scoring twice. Tanner Volpatti scored the other W&J touchdown, part of his 17 carry, 65 yard performance.  W&J hosts Thiel next Saturday.
