Presidents Stumble, Fall at Case

September 18, 2022 12:37 pm

Shutout in the first half, managing just three first downs, #25 Washington & Jefferson College rallied late before falling at Case-Western, 14-10.  The Spartans used two long pass plays for their only points, a Drew Saxton-to-Noah Coyne 42-yard TD pass with 13 seconds to play in the half, and Saxton’s 59-yard connection with Ethan Dahlem with 4:21 left in the game.  W&J took advantage of Dahlem’s punt muff to tie the game on a 11-yard scoring pass from Colton Jones to John Peduzzi with 12:39 left in the game. After forcing a punt, the Presidents moved to a first-and-goal at the Spartans two-yard line but had to settle for a 27-yard field goal by Deven Wyandt with 5:25 to play.  CWRU picked up a first down just across its own 40 yard line when Saxton found Dahlem behind the coverage for the go-ahead score.  W&J had one more shot, moving to a first-and-goal at the Spartans’ eight, but a sack, an errant snap and two incompletions ended the threat. W&J was held to just 20 yards rushing after putting up 178 yards on the ground a year ago.  Colton Jones finished 25-of-42 for 240 yards but was sacked five times for losses totaling 46 yards. Both teams are now 2-1 over-all.  W&J hosts Bethany next Saturday night at Cameron Stadium.
