McGuffey rallied from six points down at the half to beat Charleroi to clinch a playoff spot. The Cougars also qualifed when South Park topped Yough. With tie-breakers applied, McGuffey takes third place. Waynesburg’s win over Brownsville clinched the outright section championship. On the boys side, Bentworth qualified with Chartiers-Houston’s win over Carmichaels.
Friday is the final night of the regular season with several playoff berths on the line. The Avella boys are tied with Western Beaver. Avella qualifies with a win at Union, or with a Western Beaver loss against Rochester. The Peters Township girls host Canon-McMillan. The Indians are the last bubble team and are in with a win, out with a loss. Peters Township’s boys team hosts Bethel Park with the outright section championship going to the winner. WJPA-FM (95.3) Listen Here! will carry both Peters Township games, starting at 5:50 pm.
