Wash Jeff Holds Off Allegheny

October 8, 2023 11:53 am

Washington & Jefferson built a 35-7 lead midway through the second quarter, then had to hold off a second-half rally to beat Allegheny, 35-28. Kobe Derosa and Jacob Macosko each caught a pair of Jake Pugh touchdown passes and Zachai Simmons returned a blocked punt 15 yards to build the lead. Allegheny scored before the half to pull within 21, then totally dominated the second half, holding the Presidents to just six first downs and 88 total yards after the break. The victory wasn’t secured until Tanner Volpatti sacked Gators’ quarterback Jack Johnson and the clock ran out. Macosko had four catches for 76 yards, all in the first half, scoring touchdowns from 57 and 9 yards. Derosa’s scores from 10 and 6 yards were part of his three catch, 38 yard afternoon. Pugh finished the game 17-of-33 for 185 yards and the four touchdowns but completed only two passes after intermission.  Troy Volpatti carried the ball 20 times for 129 yards.. W&J improves to 5-1, one game back of Grove City, heading into the Presidents’ bye week.
