W&J Wins PAC Opener

May 12, 2022 2:47 am

Tyler Horvat singled in the tying run in the bottom of the ninth, then plated the final run in the 11th in a walk-off win for top-seeded Washington & Jefferson, opening the Presidents Athletic Conference Baseball Championship Tournament. Westminster scored five times in the top of the second inning before W&J pulled even in the fourth. After that, neither team led by more than a single run the rest of the way. The Titans were down to one strike when Carter Chinn homered to right, forcing the Presidents to score to keep the game going. Tyler Gregovits stroked his second triple and scored moments later on Horvat’s second hit of the day. In the decisive 11th inning, Tyler Dean lead off with a single, was sacrificed to second by Gregovits, setting the stage for Horvat’s walk-off base hit to right. W&J moves on to the winners’ bracket game against #3 Grove City, Friday at 12 noon. Westminster will face elimination Friday afternoon, taking on #2 St. Vincent.

The three-day, double-elimination NCAA qualifier will take place at the College’s Ross Memorial Park adjacent to Wild Things Park.  We’ll have every W&J game live on WJPA-AM (1450) and online LISTEN HERE!
