Haylie Lamonde led South Fayette with 19 points, 11 in the first quarter, helping the Lions to their fourth WPIAL championship in the past five years. South Fayette built a 7-point lead early in the third, then saw Thomas Jefferson battle back to within two. The defending state champions then outscored the Jaguars, 27-10 the rest of the way.
Late Saturday afternoon, Canon-McMillan jumped in front in the opening minute and never trailed, downing Norwin, 50-38, to claim the Big Macs first-ever WPIAL girls basketball title. Madison Clair led all scorers with 15 points, Sam Miller added 12, all in the first half, on four three-pointers. Lauren Borella’s 10 points all cam from the foul line, nine of them in the final quarter. C-M will host Gov. Mifflin Friday in the opening round of the PIAA playoffs.
