Wash High boys and Burgettstown girls won their opening-round playoff games on WJPA Monday night. Girls teams from Avella, Chartiers-Houston and Fort Cherry met the end of the line. Wash High led by a dozen at the quarter, 17 at the half and 23 after three but had to hold off Beaver Falls to advance. Burgettstown led by 29 at intermission and never looked back, ousting California. Tuesday, it’s the final night of the Sweet 16 with Trinity girls, California, Chartiers-Houston and Fort Cherry boys all in action.
