Peters Township, Avella and West Greene girls all saw their WPIAL championships hopes end Thursday night with quarterfinal losses. Peters Township is eliminated. Avella & West Greene now must win two straight State Qualifier games to stay alive. Washington County is now down to five remaining teams (4 girls, 1 boys). Greene County has two girls teams still in contention, both in the qualifier brackets. Friday night, we’ve got the last of the quarterfinal games as the Trinity girls face Woodland Hills. #1 Upper St. Clair took its first lead halfway through the second quarter and never trailed again as the Panthers downed the Indians. Rylee Kalocay’s 27 points led all scorers. Peters was within with just under two minutes left in the third, but USC rolled from there, Kalocay & Samantha Prunzik combining for 24 points in the second half. Gemma Walker had 16 for Peters. Bri Morreale added 11. Avella trailed #2 Bishop Canevin, 34-12 at the end of one quarter and never recovered.
